Overview

The 2024-10-23.0 release of Overture data and v1.2.0 of the Overture schema are now available. As part of Overture's mission to improve data quality and coverage and to expand the number of sources we use to make our datasets, we added in this release address data for several new countries, transportation data in Saudi Arabia and Italy from TomTom, and building height data from Microsoft and Esri Community Maps contributors.

The October release is available as GeoParquet files stored on both AWS and Azure. The release paths are:

Overview

The 2024-09-18.0 release of Overture data is now available. We are still on v.1.1.0 of the Overture schema, as we did not cut a new schema version with this data release. The base, buildings, divisions, and places themes are stable, which means the only changes to these themes are data improvements and bug fixes. We added new road data from TomTom, mostly in Saudi Arabia, to the transportation theme (beta). To the addresses theme (alpha) we added new data for Finland and Chile, and we replaced NAD-sourced address features in New York City with addresses from NYC Open Data.

The datasets are available as GeoParquet files stored on both AWS and Azure. The release paths are:

The transportation theme remains in beta, and users can anticipate additional breaking changes to the transportation schema. Also in this release, we launched a new theme called addresses, available in alpha. We will be making significant changes to the addresses schema and updating and adding to the addresses data over the next several months.

The datasets are available as GeoParquet files stored on AWS and Azure. The release paths are:

info

24 June 2024

Today Overture released a patch to fix data issues in the June release. This hotfix addressed the following regressions:

  • in the transportation theme, a bug in one of our automated processes inadvertently caused the conversion of unicode characters to ASCII. This affected roughly 10% of segment features that contained characters outside of the ASCII range, primarily names but possibly things like speed limit/weight restrictions if those properties contained values with characters outside that range.
  • in the buildings theme, the roof_height property was not fully populated; the hotfix adds 143k roof_height values to the release.

The new release paths are:

Here's what's new and updated in the Overture Maps 2024-05-16-beta.0 release. The "beta" designation indicates the data and schema are largely stable.

Overture Maps 2024-05-16-beta.0 is available in GeoParquet and stored on AWS and Azure. Users can select the data of interest and download it by following the process outlined here. We encourage developers wishing to adopt Overture Maps base layers to begin evaluating and providing feedback on the data, schema, and GERS IDs. Depending on the feedback from this release and subsequent releases, we anticipate moving to a production release in the next few months.
